Lamar Jackson Ruled Out After One Play Against Bills

Jackson’s return lasted one offensive snap. On a pass attempt, his throwing hand struck Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau’s arm. Jackson immediately grabbed his right thumb, walked off the field, his hand hidden beneath a towel and went to the locker room for medical attention. The Ravens first listed him as questionable to return, then ruled him out before the first quarter ended.

The quarterback had missed Baltimore’s previous three games after suffering a high-ankle sprain in an October 4 win over Tennessee. He had completed 68 of 96 attempts, accumulating 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception in four appearances, while adding 144 rushing yards and a touchdown. Baltimore went 1-2 during his absence.

Tyler Huntley took over at quarterback, but hurt a toe early in the second quarter after being sacked and fumbling. The Ravens listed Huntley as questionable to return, and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano entered for his NFL debut. Fagnano completed his first two passes for 28 yards.

Baltimore’s offense had scored 63 fewer points and averaged three fewer yards per play during Jackson’s three-game absence than in the first three games he played. The Ravens were scheduled to face Jacksonville on Thursday, leaving a short interval before their next game.
