Jackson’s Thumb Surgery Could End His Season
Jackson hurt his throwing hand on Baltimore’s first offensive play against Buffalo on November 1, when his hand struck Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau as he tried to throw to Zay Flowers. He left the game and was ruled out. Coach Jesse Minter said Jackson needs surgery and will be placed on injured reserve; Minter said the injury could keep him out for the rest of the season. Injured reserve requires at least a four-game absence.
The two-time NFL MVP had just returned following a three-game absence caused by an ankle injury. Jackson watched the second half from the sideline with his thumb in a splint as Baltimore lost 36-10, falling to 4-4.
Backup Tyler Huntley took over but left in the second quarter with a toe injury. The Ravens then turned to rookie Joe Fagnano, an undrafted quarterback making his NFL debut. Fagnano completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and threw an interception. Minter had no prompt information about Huntley, and Baltimore may need to bring in another quarterback before hosting Jacksonville on Thursday night.
