About Fetchlens
News from American media, each story once.
How it works
When several outlets cover the same event, you see one card, and its headline, summary and the full story it opens are ours, told in our own words from their reports; the outlets are named and linked under it. A story only one outlet has covered so far shows our short summary and leads to that outlet's text.
They are written by a language model (artificial intelligence), without human review before they are published, and it can make mistakes. Report a mistake in a story's ⋯ menu.
Where the left and the right would tell a story differently, it is told three ways: on its own, and as each side would, by the model in that side's way with the same facts. A small square says which you have: grey, blue for the left, red for the right. Which you get is learned from how you read them; that stays in your browser, is never sent to us, and “Forget everything you've learned about me” clears it.
“Latest” puts the stories in order of time, “Top” by how many outlets cover them and how fresh they are, and “For you” by what you open, read and skip.
What we keep
No accounts and no cookies. What “For you” learns and what you hide is kept only by your browser.
- We log how visits go: which stories you see, how long you stay on each, what you open, choose, share and play, and how long you stay. We tie it to a random mark your browser keeps, without a name, without an IP address and without cookies, to see what Fetchlens needs. We keep it until you turn the log off.
- You turn the log off in the “Your interests” panel, with “Don't log my visits”; then we also delete what was logged. “Forget everything you've learned about me” deletes it too.
- For notifications we keep only the address we send them to, until you turn them off.
- With a mistake report we get only the story, your description and your email, if you leave it.
- Your IP address is seen by Cloudflare, through which the site runs (protection and analytics without cookies), and by the outlets whose photos load.
- For stories with a video, the thumbnail comes from YouTube or Instagram. The video itself loads only when you play it, and then YouTube (Google) or Instagram (Meta) may set their cookies.
For publishers
We tell each story in our own words, from every outlet's report of it, and never copy your text; your report is credited and linked under every story it went into.
We show the photo your feed carries with a story, from your server, with a link to your text; we don't copy it.
If you don't want your photos shown, let us know — we remove them at once.
