Suspect Dead After Active Threat at Tampa-Area Citibank Complex

Florida law enforcement officers responded Wednesday afternoon to an active threat at Citibank’s business complex in the Sabal Park area of Brandon, near Tampa. Deputies were evacuating a building at the site as officers converged on the campus.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said the incident appeared to be targeted and later confirmed that the suspect was dead. An earlier update from the sheriff said one person had been taken into law enforcement custody before the death was announced.

Authorities urged people in or near the area to remain inside, secure entrances and avoid windows. Television footage showed lines of workers leaving the office buildings. The campus has four three-story office buildings and houses thousands of Citibank employees.

The sheriff’s office said no injuries or fatalities had been reported in one update. Authorities had not established whether anyone else was injured. Deputies continued clearing the building as the response unfolded.
