Brooklyn Jogger Katie Suarez Dies After Waterfront Path Stabbing

Published November 3, 2026. Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old Brooklyn woman, died on November 2, three days after she was stabbed in the neck while jogging on the Shore Parkway Greenway near Bay 17th Street. Her mother said Suarez had been receiving life-sustaining care at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn after the October 30 attack.

Suarez had left her job at a TD Bank branch in Caesar’s Bay and changed into running clothes before heading along the waterfront path. She was expected to meet her parents nearby. When she did not arrive and stopped answering calls, her father went to look for her and found her bleeding beneath a tree.

Police said Suarez managed to run about 150 feet after the attack before collapsing. Investigators believe the assault was random and are working to establish what happened and identify the attacker. Her cellphone and jewelry remained with her, leading investigators to believe she was not robbed.

The investigation is focused on the period from about 7:56 to 8:12 p.m. A license plate reader recorded roughly 1,700 vehicles passing the area during that window. Police are trying to locate drivers with dashcam footage and have used drones, K-9 units and scuba teams in the search. The path has no surveillance cameras, and police have not recovered video from the area.

Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Suarez’s cousin called for more safety measures in the park, including officers or cameras, while a state senator said the path needs better lighting, surveillance and patrols. Police ask anyone with information or relevant video to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
