Brooklyn Jogger Remains Critical After Stabbing

Katie Suarez was running along the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn’s Bath Beach neighborhood at about 8 p.m. on October 30 when she was attacked and suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck. The 28-year-old remains in critical condition at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn; she is on life support.

Suarez had been preparing for the New York City Marathon. When she failed to return as expected, her father went searching and found her with severe injuries along the trail. Paramedics transported her to a hospital.

A photograph of Suarez has been made public by the NYPD, which is asking anyone who saw her traveling east on the Belt Parkway Greenway, between Bay 8 Street and Bay 17 Street, from 7:56 to 8:12 p.m. to contact investigators. Authorities have not named a suspect or announced a motive, and no arrest has been reported.

Investigators have searched the area with police dogs, divers and aerial resources. They have also encountered difficulty obtaining surveillance footage near the scene. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said on Sunday that Suarez remained in grave condition and appealed to drivers who used the nearby Belt Parkway that evening for information.

A Crime Stoppers reward of up to $10,000 is available for information that helps identify and apprehend the attacker. Tips can be sent to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline or submitted online; they can be provided confidentially.
