Sanitation Truck Driver Arrested After Fatal Brooklyn Collision
Siobhan Lynch was crossing Bay Parkway near Cropsey Avenue shortly after 6:30 p.m. on October 28 when a municipal sanitation vehicle turned onto the road and hit her, police said. The 30-year-old Brooklyn resident suffered critical injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she died. The truck driver remained at the scene.
Police identified the driver as Timothy A. Mcvey, 41, of Staten Island. He was arrested on November 4 and faces charges of failing to yield to a pedestrian and failing to exercise due care.
Lynch is survived by her parents and twin sister. A family friend said Lynch worked in retail and hoped to become a graphic designer. She and her boyfriend had discussed marrying in the future.
Transportation Alternatives said 30 people or more died or sustained serious injuries on Bay Parkway from 2021 through 2025. Neighbors and transportation advocates have previously called for additional safety measures on the seven-lane road. The Department of Sanitation said its thoughts were with Lynch’s family and called her death a terrible tragedy.
