Cowboys Blow Late Lead in Overtime Loss to Cardinals
The Dallas Cowboys fell 33-30 to the Arizona Cardinals in overtime on November 1, after leading by 14 points twice at home. Arizona forced overtime with a late touchdown, then won on a field goal after the Cowboys failed to score on their possession. Regulation ended with Arizona missing a point-after attempt on its tying score with six seconds remaining, sending the game to overtime.
Dallas is 3-5 and has lost three of its past four games. The defeat was the Cowboys’ first after leading by at least 14 points in the fourth quarter; before Sunday, they had been 202-0-1 at home in that situation, including the playoffs. The defense has allowed at least 20 points in 15 straight games, the longest active streak in the NFL.
Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew came off the bench for Arizona and threw three fourth-quarter touchdowns. Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier had 191 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns, including a 63-yard scoring run.
Jones said he was not considering a coaching change and said he did not see the same circumstances as when he dismissed Wade Phillips during the 2010 season. He also described the loss as a team failure. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer took responsibility for his part and said the Cowboys would look for positives as they prepared for their next game, against Indianapolis.
