Jones Keeps Schottenheimer as Cowboys Coach After Overtime Loss
Dallas led the Cardinals 14-3 at halftime and 17-10 after three quarters, but Arizona rallied to win 33-30 in overtime. The loss was the Cowboys’ third at home in four games, and they have managed consecutive wins only once during Schottenheimer’s tenure.
Jones said firing Schottenheimer was not under consideration. He also defended the coach after the game, saying, “A lot of people let Brian down on November 1.” Jones said the team had to do better after being in position to win. There were no signs of an immediate coaching change for defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
The Cardinals’ Gardner Minshew connected with Michael Wilson and handed the ball to Tyler Allgeier, who rushed for 147 yards. Dallas had been unable to close out the game despite its early lead.
The same Sunday, Indianapolis lost 42-7 to Jacksonville, extending the Colts’ losing streak to four games. Coach Shane Steichen said he would evaluate every position, including quarterback Daniel Jones, whose two-year extension was agreed to in March. The Colts had fired general manager Chris Ballard and traded multiple star players; a trade involving running back Jonathan Taylor was also being considered. Steichen’s job could be at risk, and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo or offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter could serve as interim coach.
