Cowboys Collapse Against Cardinals as Jones Backs Schottenheimer

Dallas fell to 3-5 after the Cardinals rallied from a 14-point deficit, matching the largest blown fourth-quarter lead in Cowboys history. It was the team’s second loss to a backup quarterback this season, and the defeat came after Dallas had been unable to string together consecutive wins under Schottenheimer.

Jones said players and others had let the coach down, and said he did not see a reason to dismiss him midseason. The only time Jones has fired a Cowboys coach during a season was in 2010, when Wade Phillips was let go with the team at 1-7.

Prescott also pushed back against focusing blame on Schottenheimer, saying responsibility belonged across the team and its staff. His defense came as the Cowboys’ offense had struggled in three losses during their four-game stretch.

Dallas’ defense gave up two long runs by Tyler Allgeier before Gardner Minshew threw three fourth-quarter touchdowns. Arizona missed a late extra point, sending the game to overtime, then won with a field goal. The Cowboys’ offense averaged 2.4 yards per carry and gave up four sacks, both season lows. Dallas visits Indianapolis on Sunday, November 8.
