Minshew Leads Cardinals Past Cowboys After Brissett Is Benched
Arizona was trailing 17-3 late in the third quarter when coach Mike LaFleur pulled Brissett from the game. Brissett had completed 10 of 23 passes for 119 yards and an interception, and was sacked four times. He was sacked twice in a row on his last possession.
Minshew, making his first regular-season appearance for the Cardinals, helped spark the comeback. On his first drive, running back Tyler Allgeier broke away for a 63-yard touchdown to cut Dallas’ lead to seven. Minshew later threw a touchdown pass to Michael Wilson, helping Arizona level the score at 30 in the closing seconds of regulation. A missed extra point by Chad Ryland kept the Cardinals from moving ahead.
After Arizona’s defense stopped Dallas on its opening overtime possession, Minshew led an eight-play, 44-yard drive. Ryland then kicked a 42-yard field goal to secure the victory and give Arizona a 3-5 record.
The Cardinals entered the game 2-5, while Brissett had thrown for 1,600 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions before Sunday. Minshew, who earned a Pro Bowl selection with Indianapolis in 2023, now gives LaFleur another option at quarterback for Arizona’s upcoming games.
