Minshew Takes Over as Cardinals’ Starting Quarterback
The Arizona Cardinals have reshuffled their quarterback depth chart after Gardner Minshew sparked a comeback victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Coach Mike LaFleur announced on November 2 that Minshew will start against the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday, with rookie Carson Beck as his backup and Jacoby Brissett moved to the emergency third spot.
Minshew entered Sunday’s game late in the third quarter with Arizona trailing by 14 points. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns as the Cardinals rallied to tie the game and win 33-30 in overtime. The victory lifted Arizona’s record to 3-5.
Brissett had completed 10 of 23 passes for 117 yards and thrown an interception before being replaced. LaFleur said the decision was not solely a judgment of Brissett, and described Minshew’s performance as the spark the team needed. He also praised Minshew’s preparation and competitiveness.
Beck, a third-round pick from Miami, had not played in a regular-season game. LaFleur said moving him up would support his development and give him more work with the scout team. Beck had shown promise during exhibition play, going 15-for-19 for 188 yards and one score.
Brissett’s future with Arizona remains uncertain with the November 10 trade deadline approaching. LaFleur said the team was focused on the coming week. Minshew, 30, is set to make his first start for the Cardinals in Seattle.
