Cardinals Place Jeremiyah Love on Injured Reserve

The Arizona Cardinals plan to put first-year running back Jeremiyah Love on injured reserve after he injured his ankle during their November 1 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys. The high-ankle sprain is expected to keep him out for four to five weeks, at least, leaving the team without its third overall draft pick for upcoming games.

Love had nine carries for 23 yards before leaving the game. The injury came after earlier ankle problems had already limited his rookie season, including a two-game absence. He has appeared in six games, rushing for 268 yards and a touchdown, and adding 11 receptions and a receiving score.

Tyler Allgeier is expected to take on more work. Against Dallas, Allgeier ran for 147 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 44 yards, including another touchdown. He leads Arizona with 323 rushing yards this season.

The Cardinals are 3-5 after their comeback victory and are scheduled to visit the Seattle Seahawks on November 8. Running back Bam Knight is also in concussion protocol after being hurt against Dallas, leaving Allgeier as the only running back on Arizona’s active roster. The team could bring up Evan Hull or look for additional help.

Coach Mike LaFleur said Love’s latest injury involved a different part of the ankle from his previous problems. LaFleur said he would provide more information on Wednesday after speaking with the player.
