Colts Open Trade Talks on Jonathan Taylor
Indianapolis has begun fielding calls about trading Taylor, 27, as it looks to build for the future after a 2-5 start. The Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos have been identified as interested teams. At least one offer reportedly included a second-round draft pick and additional compensation; the Colts are seeking a substantial return, with the 2022 Christian McCaffrey trade cited as a possible benchmark.
The Colts have already traded All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to Seattle and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to San Francisco. Earlier this month, the team dismissed general manager Chris Ballard and does not hold its 2027 first-round pick, increasing the value of future draft selections to the team.
Taylor met this week with owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon to talk about what lies ahead for him. The owner would prefer he remain part of the rebuild, but the team is considering what his trade value could bring. Taylor has not requested a trade and said he is proud to wear the Colts uniform, while acknowledging that the decision is beyond his control.
Taylor has 587 rushing yards and eight touchdowns through seven games this season. He led the NFL in rushing yards in 2021 and in rushing touchdowns last season. He is under contract through 2028, with base salaries of $15 million in 2027 and $9.46 million in 2028. The trade deadline is November 10.
