Payton declines to address Taylor trade rumors
Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton declined on November 2 to address speculation that his team could pursue Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. The Broncos entered the week 6-2 and atop the AFC West after beating the Kansas City Chiefs on November 1, while the Colts have traded several key players amid a rebuild.
Asked about the Taylor rumors, Payton said he and general manager George Paton would look at the roster and consider areas for improvement, but he would not respond to what he called “internet gossip.”
Denver’s backfield has changed after second-year running back RJ Harvey was placed on injured reserve during the past week. Veteran JK Dobbins and rookie Jonah Coleman are currently leading the group.
Coleman appeared to take the lead role in Week 8, carrying 11 times for a team-high 41 yards and a touchdown. He also led Denver in receiving, with four catches for 63 yards.
Taylor had eight carries in Indianapolis’ 42-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 1. Payton did not confirm whether Denver is pursuing the running back, and the team’s evaluation of possible roster improvements remains ongoing.
