Colts Trade Talks Stall Ahead of NFL Deadline
The Colts have received interest from several teams in running back Jonathan Taylor, but negotiations have stalled over Indianapolis’ asking price. The team is seeking a substantial package comparable to what San Francisco gave Carolina for Christian McCaffrey in 2022: selections in rounds two, three, four and five. Potential buyers have not been willing to offer that much, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said on November 5.
Indianapolis would prefer to keep Taylor, whom the organization views as part of its future, and build around him. That means a deal may require a particularly strong offer, even as the Colts continue reshaping their roster after trading Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner.
Wide receiver Josh Downs is another possible departure. Downs has requested a trade, and the Colts are seeking a third- or fourth-round pick for the 25-year-old. Teams looking for help at receiver could provide potential trade partners, but it remains unclear whether any will meet Indianapolis’ price.
The Colts could also consider offers for other veterans, including Grover Stewart, a defensive tackle; Mo Alie-Cox, a tight end; Daniel Jones, a quarterback; and cornerback Charvarius Ward. With the deadline set for November 10, Indianapolis must decide whether to hold to its asking prices or keep the players.
