Woman Killed After Burleson Abduction and Police Chase
Burleson police received a call about an armed man in the 700 block of West Hidden Creek Parkway on the morning of October 29. Ramirez’s boyfriend, Ezekiel Cain, said she called to tell him her estranged husband was downstairs and had a gun. Cain called 911, but when he reached their apartment parking lot, she had been taken away in a vehicle.
Witnesses told police they saw the man force Ramirez into the vehicle. Cain said he followed it and gave dispatch directions as police pursued. The chase lasted more than 30 minutes and reached the Cresson area.
Police Chief Billy Cordell said officers used spike strips on Highway 377, damaging two passenger-side wheels. The driver continued. Police later found Ramirez and the man dead inside the vehicle, each apparently suffering a gunshot injury. Officers did not discharge their weapons.
Cain said Ramirez had left her estranged husband following years of physical and emotional mistreatment, and had recently moved to Burleson. She had graduated from nursing school and was due to begin a residency in February. Cain described her as a devoted mother and stepmother; her daughters, aged 9 and 14, will be raised by their aunt, Ramirez’s sister.
