Six Hurt in Bushwick Trunk-or-Treat Crash

On October 29, 2026, a black sedan drove onto the sidewalk during a trunk-or-treat event outside the NYPD’s 83rd Precinct in Bushwick, striking pedestrians and a parked ambulance. The collision happened around 4 p.m. near Knickerbocker Avenue and Bleecker Street, as families gathered for the Halloween event.

Six people were taken to hospitals. They included three children and three women. All were reported in stable condition and expected to survive. The ambulance was unoccupied when the car hit it.

Police took the 56-year-old driver into custody. On October 29, 2026, police accused him of causing injury with a vehicle, endangering others, and operating while under the influence. Authorities were investigating whether he had been intoxicated; law enforcement sources said there was no indication he intended to hit pedestrians or police officers.

Witnesses described the car surging onto the sidewalk and people running from the scene. One witness said she narrowly avoided being hit after stepping out of a cab with her baby. Another described the crash’s impact as so severe that people initially feared a shooting.
