Two Bystanders Shot in Richmond Avenue Gunfight

Houston police said officers received calls about gunfire around 10:40 p.m. on November 1 near Richmond Avenue. Investigators said two people were later brought to a nearby hospital in separate vehicles after being shot. The shooting was in the area of Richmond Avenue and Ocee Street, police said; another account placed it between South Gessner and Fondren roads.

Police said preliminary information indicates the victims were struck amid an exchange of gunfire involving two groups. One person was in stable condition, while the other was critically injured and flown by medical helicopter to a hospital.

Witnesses said a block party was taking place nearby, with one estimating about 100 people were there. The witness said people ran when two men began shooting at each other.

Police have not provided descriptions of the shooters or said what led to the gunfire. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
