Former Cape Cod Rowing Instructor Taken Into Custody in Child Sex Case

Guy Monseair, a former rowing coach at several Cape Cod clubs, was arrested in the Bronx, New York, on November 5. Barnstable police said he is charged with four counts alleging aggravated rape of a minor under statutory law and one count of assault and battery involving a child under 14. He is being held while awaiting extradition to Massachusetts.

Barnstable police opened an inquiry in October into claims of sexual assault and rape connected to Monseair’s time coaching on Cape Cod. Investigators located him in the Bronx, where police said he was coaching at another rowing club. A warrant was issued on November 4, and New York City police and federal investigators in a human-trafficking unit took him into custody the following day.

Cape Cod Rowing said it understood Monseair had been affiliated with the club in the past, though current members did not know when he coached there. A woman who said he coached her at the club in 2007 described the allegations as deeply disturbing and said she was concerned he remained around children. She said he had traveled with her and other girls to rowing competitions in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The Barnstable investigation is ongoing, and police urged anyone with information to contact them. The Cape and Islands district attorney’s office is prosecuting the case.
