Former Hyattsville Officer Sentenced to 27 Years for Child Rape

Jonathan Monge, 38, received a 27-year prison term for sexually abusing a minor and raping the young victim. Todd Steuart, a judge on the Prince George’s County Circuit Court, further ordered him to serve five years of supervised probation after his release and to be listed for life in the Tier III sex-offender category.

In March, jurors found Monge guilty of sexually abusing a minor once and committing second-degree rape twice. The case involved a child who was temporarily in his care and custody between December 1, 2024, and September 2, 2025.

Monge, who is from Riverdale Park, was arrested by the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office in November 2025. He had worked for the Hyattsville Police Department for five years. The department said after his conviction that he was no longer employed there; he had been placed on unpaid administrative leave after his arrest.

Tara H. Jackson, who leads the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, said the sentence could not undo the harm to the victim, but emphasized that public safety officials must uphold strong ethical conduct and obey the law. Hyattsville police described Monge’s conduct as inconsistent with the department’s values and said it damaged community trust.
