Thomas Markle Arrested in Florida in Child Abuse Material Investigation
Thomas Markle, 82, was arrested by federal agents at his senior-living home in Lakeland, Florida, on November 6, in connection with allegations that he possessed child sexual abuse material. The investigation has also focused on material allegedly found at properties linked to him in the Philippines and Mexico.
Mexican investigators searched a storage unit in Rosarito that Markle had rented and seized a computer, thumb drives, videotapes and magazines. A warrant authorized a search for evidence of child sexual abuse material and alleged aggravated human trafficking. Markle’s son, Thomas Jr., said he found material among family belongings and reported it to authorities. He has also said he informed the FBI about two storage units in Los Angeles.
Markle has denied the allegations, saying he could not have committed the acts he is accused of and that the claims were lies. His daughter Samantha has also rejected her brother’s accusations, alleging he was motivated by a dispute with their father. Samantha’s partner likewise disputed the claims.
The Duchess of Sussex said she was distressed by the allegations and that she was thinking of children who might have suffered harm. She expressed hope that the focus would remain on protecting children. Authorities in the Philippines were also said to be nearing formal charges over alleged images found at Markle’s former home there.
