Wentz Set to Start as Vikings Weigh Quarterback Options
The Minnesota Vikings will turn to Carson Wentz at quarterback against the Buffalo Bills in Week 9 after Kyler Murray suffered a hamstring injury. Murray is set to miss his second game of the season following a difficult outing in Minnesota’s loss to Detroit, leaving the team weighing its options at the position.
Wentz’s arrival could help Justin Jefferson, who produced eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener after Murray left with a concussion. Jefferson has averaged 9.25 fantasy points per game from Week 2 through Week 8. Buffalo enters the matchup with the NFL’s 30th-ranked pass defense, and Jefferson could see increased targets with Wentz starting.
Minnesota has also been linked to possible quarterback additions, including Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers. Herbert could strengthen the Vikings’ offense and support Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson. The Chargers, who are 0-7, are expected to consider moving prominent players, while Minnesota has been described as a team in win-now mode with the league’s top-ranked defense.
Daniel Jones is another potential option, though he is not viewed as being in Herbert’s class. The Vikings’ immediate plan is for Wentz to start against Buffalo as questions remain about Murray’s status and whether the team will pursue a quarterback trade.
