Vikings’ Quarterback Questions Fuel Trade Speculation

Minnesota’s first loss of the season, a 19-point defeat at Detroit, intensified concerns about an offense that has struggled to find its footing with Kyler Murray. The Vikings remain atop the NFC North at 6-1, but Murray’s five full games with the team have produced an average of 18 points.

Against the Lions, Murray completed 17 of 29 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. He also had trouble connecting with Justin Jefferson, who caught five passes for 33 yards and a score on nine targets. Murray said the team needed to find ways to get Jefferson the ball, and acknowledged that the receiver’s frustration was understandable. Coach Kevin O’Connell said the Vikings were still working out how to balance in-rhythm passing with Murray’s ability to run.

With the trade deadline approaching, speculation has centered on whether Minnesota could pursue another quarterback. Kirk Cousins, now with the Raiders, is an obvious possibility: he has thrown 19 touchdowns and five interceptions this season. But Las Vegas is 4-4 and in the playoff race, making a deal difficult. Other names raised as potential options include Arizona’s Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis’ Daniel Jones and the Chargers’ Justin Herbert; any move would carry questions about performance, cost or fit.

The Vikings next face Buffalo, which is 6-1. Murray also began the week with uncertainty over a hamstring injury sustained during the Detroit game. The reports describe trade possibilities as speculation, not as a completed move or confirmed pursuit.
