Amazon Names Uber Eats Its Prime Delivery Partner

Amazon Prime members in the United States can order restaurant meals through Amazon’s website or shopping app under a new agreement with Uber. Orders of at least $25 qualify for no delivery fee, and customers can use their Amazon accounts and payment methods without signing up for Uber.

Amazon will manage the ordering process and delivery notifications, while Uber Eats will provide the final receipt. For the first two weeks, the companies are offering Prime members $20 off an initial order of $25 or more.

The deal takes the place of Amazon’s commercial arrangement with Grubhub, which ended on November 5. That partnership began in 2022 with a free Grubhub+ offer for Prime members and was later extended as an ongoing benefit. Amazon said it regularly reviews third-party offers and saw an opportunity to improve the restaurant delivery experience.

Amazon had also reached an agreement with Grubhub’s former owner, Just Eat Takeaway.com, that could have given Amazon a larger equity stake through warrants. After Just Eat Takeaway agreed to transfer Grubhub to Wonder, Amazon chose in December 2024 to cash out its exercisable warrants. The commercial relationship continued until the new Uber arrangement.

The partnership adds to existing ties between Amazon and Uber, including work involving cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and Alexa+. Uber says customers can use the arrangement to shop for meals, groceries and household essentials in one place. The companies say Prime members could save more than $175 a year, an estimate based on frequent delivery orders. Service charges, tips and other costs may still apply, and the $25 minimum can limit the benefit for smaller orders.
