Disney Prepares Thousands of Job Cuts Across Its Operations

Walt Disney is preparing a new round of job reductions that could affect thousands of workers, as the company seeks to lower costs across its operations. Some managers have been asked to identify savings equal to as much as 20% of annual expenses. The total number of positions at risk and the timing of the cuts have not been specified publicly. Disney declined to comment on November 2.

The reductions are expected to vary by division. Areas that could be affected include television, the film studio and theme parks. Chief Executive Josh D’Amaro plans to put some of the savings toward film and television programming, technology, parks and cruise businesses.

Disney has already made several rounds of cuts this year. About 1,000 roles were eliminated in April, followed by several hundred in July and a few hundred more in September, mainly in technology and human resources. The company also offered voluntary early retirement to long-serving executives; the program has since ended.

Disney’s leaders have described workforce reductions as part of a wider effort to curb expenses and free up funds for investment. The company is due to report results for its September quarter on November 17. At the close of fiscal 2025, Disney had roughly 231,000 employees.
