Rosland Capital Lists More Than $63 Million in Bankruptcy Debts

On November 2, Rosland Capital’s bankruptcy disclosure showed the precious-metals firm owed creditors $63,695,060.86. The company filed for Chapter 11 protection in July after financial distress, customer complaints and lawsuits; its employees had been let go in June.

The disclosure comes as an unsecured creditors’ committee investigates the company’s finances. In an October 14 court motion, the committee said von Detten had not provided requested documents and asked for permission to subpoena him. The committee believes he had a significant role in the business and may hold information relevant to its inquiry.

Von Detten, 44, worked with Rosland Capital from 2018 and was known as a child actor for roles in The Princess Diaries and Brink!, as well as voicing Sid in Toy Story. The firm sold physical precious metals and metals-related retirement investments.

Norman Greenberg, 97, and Sheila Greenberg, 85, sued von Detten and Rosland Capital in Los Angeles. They allege that after contacting the company in 2020, they bought gold coins for about $2.1 million, including purchases they say von Detten arranged. They claim the coins were worth only about $1.3 million and seek $900,000 in damages, along with punitive damages.

The couple’s suit alleges the company sought to exploit older customers’ financial concerns by promoting gold as a stable investment. Their claims have not been established in court. The creditors’ committee’s investigation is ongoing.
