Netflix Cuts 2% to 3% of London Office Staff

On November 2, Netflix’s London layoffs included Anna Mallett, who led filming and locally made programming for the company in Britain, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. About 2% to 3% of the office’s several hundred employees were affected, including people in communications, publicity, marketing and other roles.

Mallett joined Netflix in 2020 and oversaw TV dramas and movies in Britain and elsewhere. Her tenure included local hits such as Baby Reindeer and Adolescence, as well as later seasons of Money Heist. Before Netflix, she was chief executive of ITN and held senior positions at BBC Studios.

The London cuts follow Netflix’s announcement in October that it was eliminating about 1,000 jobs worldwide, roughly 6% of its workforce. Among the most senior U.S. departures were content chief Bela Bajaria and film head Dan Lin. Peter Rice replaced Bajaria.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the company did not need a fundamental change in strategy, but needed to improve execution in the U.S. Co-CEO Greg Peters said local productions in Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Europe, the Middle East and Africa were helping drive engagement and growth. The company has emphasized that international content remains important as the reorganization continues.
