Jaguars Weigh Trade Options After Eric Murray Injury
The Jaguars have lost another experienced defensive starter. Eric Murray injured his elbow on the opening kickoff against the Indianapolis Colts on November 1, and head coach Liam Coen said the safety would be out for the remainder of the season on November 2.
Jacksonville has potential replacements already on its roster. Antonio Johnson could return from an ankle injury, while Rayuan Lane and Kaevon Merriweather have impressed. Third-round pick Jalen Huskey is another option. But with Caleb Ransaw also on injured reserve, the team could look outside for help.
Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker is one proposed target. He brings experience and versatility, and Jaguars leaders Liam Coen and James Gladstone have faced him during their time in the NFC West. The Cardinals could value draft picks, making a deal a possibility.
Atlanta’s Jessie Bates is another high-profile candidate. He has recorded 14 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles in four seasons with the Falcons, though acquiring him could mean a short-term rental if Jacksonville does not retain him when his contract expires.
For a less costly option, the Jaguars could pursue Elijah Molden, a defensive back with the Los Angeles Chargers. He can play safety or in the slot, and a deal might cost a mid-to-late Day 3 draft pick. The Chargers are 0-7, while Molden is viewed as a lower-cost choice with a dependable level of play.
