Cowboys’ Stephen Jones Addresses Coaching Changes After Loss

The Dallas Cowboys led the Arizona Cardinals 17-3 late in the third quarter on Sunday, but Arizona rallied for a 33-30 overtime win. The defeat left Dallas with a 3-5 record this season.

Arizona changed quarterbacks, bringing in Gardner Minshew for Jacoby Brissett. Minshew directed four straight touchdown drives as the Cardinals erased the deficit and forced overtime. Arizona won with a field goal on its second possession of the extra period.

Asked on Monday whether Dallas might make coaching changes, executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team would not dismiss someone simply to make a statement. He said changes should be considered if they would help the organization over the long term, and noted that owner Jerry Jones could speak for himself.

Brian Schottenheimer is in his second season as Dallas head coach. His record with the team is 10-14-1. The loss renewed questions about his position, though Stephen Jones’s comments did not indicate that a change was imminent. The Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since the 1995 season.
