Search Underway for Man Swept Into Flagstaff Floodwaters
Flagstaff police and fire crews were searching on November 1 for a man who fell into floodwaters in the vicinity of South Malpais Lane and West Clay Avenue. Emergency responders were called shortly before 6 p.m. after receiving word that the man had lost his footing beside fast-moving water and disappeared beneath it. He had not resurfaced when the search began.
Officials asked the public to keep clear of the search area. People who saw what happened or have details that could assist investigators were asked to call Flagstaff Police at 928-774-1414 or Silent Witness at 928-774-6111.
The city urged residents to remain home and avoid travel amid severe weather. It warned that floodwater can be deeper and faster than it looks, and cautioned people against walking, driving or playing near flowing water.
Heavy rain also led to evacuation orders in other parts of Arizona, including areas near Oak Creek in Sedona and waterways around Camp Verde. The Flagstaff search was ongoing.
