Flooding Closes Highways Across Arizona
Heavy rainfall swept across Arizona on Sunday, November 1, bringing flash flooding and rockfalls that shut down several highways. The closures affected routes in central and northern parts of the state, with no estimated reopening times provided for the roads listed by transportation officials.
The affected routes included Interstate 17 northbound at State Route 179 and southbound near Flagstaff Pulliam Airport. State Route 89A was closed between Sedona and Kachina Village, State Route 73 between Indian Pine and Whiteriver, and State Route 238 between Maricopa and Gila Bend.
Transportation crews were clearing rockfall debris from roads in northern Arizona with plow trucks. Flooding also led to resident relocations and nearby road shutdowns around Sedona and across White Mountain Apache tribal lands.
Flood warnings remained active across parts of Arizona on Monday, November 2, as river levels stayed high following the weekend rain. Flash-flood and flood warnings covered areas including Navajo and Coconino counties.
