Man Rescued From Backyard Sinkhole in Phoenix
Emergency crews were called at about 3 p.m. on November 1 to a home near 24th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix, where a man had fallen into a sinkhole roughly six feet deep. He was unable to climb out after injuring his chest in the fall, fire officials said.
A pickup truck had also partly dropped into the hole. Crews stabilized the vehicle to keep it from slipping farther before a rescue technician went down into the sinkhole and helped the man out.
He was transported to a hospital in stable condition. No firefighters were injured during the rescue. The cause of the sinkhole was not stated.
