Two Men Found Dead After Flooding in Flagstaff
On November 2, two men were found dead in Flagstaff after floodwater swept through the city over the weekend. The first, 73-year-old Williams Singavarapu of New York, was last seen Sunday near Malpais Lane and Clay Avenue after reportedly losing his footing beside fast-moving water and falling in. Search crews found his body around 5:30 a.m. by the intersection of Ellery Avenue and W.C. Riles Street, at a distance of under one mile. His death remains under investigation.
A little before 8:30 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to a stormwater drainage area near North Highway 89 and Lynch Avenue, where they found another adult man unresponsive. Investigators believe his death may be weather-related. The man has not been publicly identified, and authorities are working to notify his next of kin. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Flood cleanup is underway. Duncan Suhr, a longtime Flagstaff resident and apartment property manager, said water filled his complex’s basement and that cleanup would cost thousands of dollars. Coconino Emergency Management director Tim Carter said safety remains a priority as recovery continues. Floodwater can move heavy infrastructure, he warned, and road closures and barricades are intended to protect people from dangerous conditions.
