Six Rescued From Flooded Phoenix Wash
Phoenix firefighters rescued six people after four vehicles became trapped in a flooded wash near 40th Street and Camelback Road on October 30. Crews used a shallow-water entry to reach the occupants and get them out of the vehicles.
Fire officials said everyone was assessed at the scene and declined transportation to a hospital. The rescue came as thunderstorms brought flooding to parts of the Phoenix area.
In east Phoenix, firefighters were also assisting occupants of a sedan and pickup immobilized by water on Stanford Drive, north of Camelback Road, close to 40th Street. Nearby, around 32nd Street, at least two people were rescued after other cars became stuck; no injuries were reported.
In Scottsdale, firefighters helped people from a stalled car near Scottsdale Road and McCormick Parkway. Those occupants were assessed, and none needed hospital care. Apache Junction officials also listed several flooded roads, including sections of Lost Dutchman Boulevard, Junction Avenue and 2nd Avenue.
The National Weather Service reported rainfall exceeding an inch in some locations over a period under 60 minutes, and several flash flood warnings were active in the Valley and surrounding areas. First responders urged drivers to turn around rather than drive through floodwater, which can sweep away vehicles.
