Justice Department urges sanctions for database analysis critical of its noncitizen voting claims
On November 1, 2026, the Justice Department asked a federal judge in Washington to consider contempt proceedings against CHIRLA and its lawyers for publishing an analysis of a list of alleged noncitizen voters. The department also appealed a San Francisco judge’s order blocking federal demands to remove suspected noncitizens from California voter rolls or separate their ballots.
