Barkley aims to play despite hamstring and back issues

Saquon Barkley is working to be available when Philadelphia faces the Washington Commanders on November 1, 2026. The running back practiced Friday and said he wants to play whenever he has the opportunity, while continuing to recover carefully. He has dealt with hamstring and back issues this season.

Barkley returned Monday against Dallas after sitting out two games because of a hamstring strain. The problem seemed to worsen on a 29-yard run, and he played only nine snaps, but finished with 62 rushing yards on seven carries. He also experienced back discomfort and visited the medical tent several times.

Barkley said after the game that finding a way to get healthy had become frustrating. Philadelphia has lost five straight and entered Week 8 with a 2-5 record.

For fantasy managers, Barkley remains a risk even if he plays: his recent limited workload raises the possibility that he could again see little action. Elijah Mitchell is a potential backup if Barkley is unavailable, though he is not considered a strong start if Barkley plays. Jaydon Blue could also have a role, but his potential workload is uncertain.
