Riq Woolen Keeps Focus as Eagles Trade Rumors Grow
Woolen, who signed a one-year, $12 million deal with Philadelphia in March, has emerged as a possible trade candidate as the Eagles struggle through a 2-5 start. His contract expires after this season, and the trade deadline is less than two weeks away. Other Eagles with expiring deals have also surfaced in speculation.
Woolen said the rumors do not change his approach. He said he is continuing to work for the team and wants to remain in Philadelphia, where he spent the offseason with his teammates. He has dealt with trade speculation before, including while playing for Seattle last year.
The cornerback had a difficult outing in the October 26 loss to Dallas. He gave up 76 yards and a touchdown on four completions in six attempts, while recording two pass breakups and drawing a holding penalty. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio defended him, saying the coverage assignment was difficult after the pass rush failed to reach the quarterback.
Woolen has recorded an interception in all of his first four NFL seasons, including a rookie-record six for the Seahawks. He has none this season despite playing 99% of Philadelphia’s defensive snaps. The Eagles are preparing to visit Washington on November 1, with 10 games remaining in their season.
