Toddler Recovering After Alaska Crash Killed Her Parents

The collision occurred near mile 115 of the Parks Highway in Trapper Creek. Alaska State Troopers said Sasha Hart, 38, was driving south in a Subaru Forester when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound Ford F-250. She and her husband, David Hart, 41, died at the scene. Their daughter received care at an Anchorage medical center for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The family said Paige suffered six broken bones and is healing. David’s sister Shery Elterman-Hart described her niece as a “miracle.” Another sister, Katie Ragsdale, said Paige carries reminders of both parents, including her mother’s expressions and her father’s fondness for sweets.

The couple had recently marked 10 years of marriage and made their home in Fairbanks. Relatives said they enjoyed traveling, hockey and food, and that raising Paige was central to their lives. Elterman-Hart said Sasha became part of the family soon after meeting David.

Elterman-Hart plans to help raise Paige with her husband and two sons. A fundraiser has been started to help cover Paige’s medical expenses and other needs; it had raised nearly $30,000 toward a $35,000 goal. The crash investigation remains ongoing. Following the collision, the highway remained shut for roughly five hours, with traffic diverted through a nearby parking lot.
