Three Homicides Investigated in Prince George’s County

Police investigated three homicides in Prince George’s County within several hours on October 29. The cases involved a fatal stabbing in College Park, a shooting in Landover and the discovery of a teenager’s body in a Hyattsville park area. No suspects had been arrested, and investigators were working to determine what led to each killing.

At about 4:15 a.m., officers responding to a stabbing report located Jose Edin Hernandez Vasquez, 26, at a home in the 9900 block of 51st Terrace. He died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts, police said.

About an hour later, officers found a man shot dead in the roadway on Belle Haven Drive in Landover. Police had not publicly identified him.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a landscaping worker found 18-year-old Omar Jonathan Ventura Ajbal in the Langley-Hampshire Neighborhood Park area. Police said he appeared to have died from a gunshot wound. The park is in Hyattsville, near Langley Park.

Police Chief George Nader said the three cases appeared to be isolated and targeted, and that the public was not in danger from random killings. He urged anyone with information to contact the department’s homicide unit at 301-516-2512.

Nader also said homicides were down 33% compared with the same point the previous year and 55% compared with 2024. He said the department viewed the decline as progress while recognizing the loss and grief caused by each homicide.
