Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old in Langley Park

Police responding at about 1:50 a.m. on November 3 to the 8100 block of 15th Avenue found two teenage girls with gunshot wounds. Any Davalos, 13, of Silver Spring, died at the scene. The other girl was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and remained hospitalized.

Melendez-Umanzor faces first- and second-degree murder charges, first- and second-degree attempted murder charges and related offenses. Davalos had been reported missing to Montgomery County police before the shooting. Police have not identified the surviving girl publicly.

The shooting occurred during a violent stretch in Prince George’s County. Later on November 3, police found 24-year-old Chrystopher Hagans shot at an apartment on Belle Haven Drive; he died at the scene. At least seven people had been killed in the county over fewer than seven days, with three deaths on October 29.
