Surprise Martial Arts Manager Arrested in Case Involving Teen Student

Police arrested Jose Alexandro Zamora, manager of Legendary Martial Arts in Surprise, Arizona, on October 28. He faces eight felony counts, including six charges related to sexual activity with an underage person, ongoing abuse of a child and enticing a child. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

The investigation began in February after a tip that a 17-year-old student had been sexually involved with Zamora since she was 14. Investigators obtained messages from his Instagram account through search warrants. Police say Zamora told detectives the relationship became romantic in October 2023, when he was 27 and the student was 14, and that they had sex about once a week until March 2025. He said he stopped the relationship, knowing it was against the law.

Messages cited in court documents indicate the two continued communicating into February 2026. Police say Zamora acknowledged in messages that the relationship carried risks, and told detectives he knew the student was underage when it began. The documents also describe sexual encounters in vehicles, including a work van parked outside the student’s school.

Surprise police say Zamora’s role as an instructor gave him access to young students and that detectives believe there could be additional victims. They are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the department and cite incident 260201435.

Legendary Martial Arts said it removed Zamora when it learned of the allegations on October 28 and is cooperating with police. His next court date is November 3. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
