Commanders and Eagles Face a Pivotal Sunday Night Showdown
Published on October 29, 2026, the upcoming game finds both teams under pressure. Philadelphia is 2-5 after five straight losses, while Washington is 1-4-1 and coming off a bye. The loser will fall to last place, with the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 10; the winner will remain in contention for now in the NFC East.
The Eagles are expected to be without quarterback Jalen Hurts for the rest of the season because of blood clots. Tanner McKee has started the past two games, completing 61.3% of his passes for 426 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni said the team needs to work out what it does well and commit to it.
Washington is also missing key players: receiver Terry McLaurin is out for the season, and leading rusher Jacory Croskey-Merritt is unavailable. Rookie Antonio Williams could see more targets; he caught four passes for 64 yards and a touchdown against Philadelphia in the teams’ September 13 meeting, which the Eagles won 24-22.
Washington coach Dan Quinn said his team needs to play winning football for all four quarters. He called the matchup one between two angry teams prepared to fight through the final snap. The Commanders then face the Rams on November 8 and the Giants on November 12, giving them three games in 12 days. Quinn said the team is focused first on Philadelphia.
