Louisville Looks to Extend Winning Streak at Georgia Tech
Louisville enters the matchup 5-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Georgia Tech is 2-6 and 1-4. The Cardinals are favored by 14.5 points. A win would give coach Jeff Brohm his 100th victory as a college football head coach; he has 30 at Western Kentucky, 36 at Purdue and 33 at Louisville.
Louisville will be without offensive lineman Anwar O’Neal and receiver Lawayne McCoy, who is likely to be out for a number of weeks. Running back Isaac Brown has been downgraded to questionable after scoring four touchdowns in last week’s 52-24 win over Stanford.
The Cardinals’ running game has averaged 6.25 yards per carry this season, second-best in the FBS. During their three-game winning streak, they have gained 272 yards on the ground and scored four or more touchdowns each game. Georgia Tech has allowed 219.3 rushing yards and 30.8 points per game, and has given up at least 34 points in each of its past three losses.
Louisville will also look to pressure quarterback Alberto Mendoza. In Georgia Tech’s 34-11 loss to Pittsburgh, he completed 16 of 25 passes for 81 yards, while Pittsburgh brought him down for five sacks. The Yellow Jackets have four offensive linemen listed as out. Louisville, meanwhile, has shown vulnerability to long passes: Stanford scored three times on throws of at least 40 yards.
With McCoy sidelined, Tre Richardson had 10 catches for 140 yards and four carries for 49 yards against Stanford. Louisville’s Lincoln Kienholz has 313 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns through eight games. The teams have split four meetings as conference opponents; Brohm has won both matchups since taking over at Louisville.
