Jamie Lee Curtis Says Reiner Family Bond Deepened Through Grief
On November 7, 2026, Jamie Lee Curtis described the closeness she shares with Jake and Romy Reiner as they grieve the deaths of their parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Curtis said the family tragedy had brought them closer, and recalled sitting beside Jake during an interview as he spoke about his parents and their relationship.
The couple were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Their son Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to two murder counts and is awaiting trial. Curtis said the family had not yet held a large public memorial and that those close to the Reiners were still mourning.
Curtis, who has been friends with the family for decades, honored Rob Reiner during the 2026 Emmy Awards in September. Reiner received an Emmy after his death for his performance in The Bear. Curtis noted that the award marked a 48-year gap between his acting Emmy wins, surpassing the previous record held by his father, Carl Reiner. She also praised her friend’s generosity, humor and kindness.
Curtis has spoken about feeling responsible for representing the Reiners’ family, friends and colleagues during the televised tribute. Her connection to the couple included personal and professional ties: she and her husband, Christopher Guest, married at Reiner’s home in 1984, and Rob and Michele became godparents to their daughter Annie. Curtis also encouraged Reiner to accept his role on The Bear.
