Hailey Bieber Describes Struggle With PMDD After Son’s Birth
On November 3, Hailey Bieber spoke about experiencing premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD, after the birth of her son, Jack Blues, in August 2024. The 29-year-old model and Rhode founder said she struggled with the condition and felt there was little public discussion or research about it.
Bieber said sharing her experience and hearing from others helps reduce the isolation she feels. She has also described the condition as affecting her work, relationships and social life, and said its effects can be severe and should be taken seriously.
Her interest in women’s health has grown from her own experience and from seeing people close to her deal with health conditions. Bieber said her sister has polycystic ovary syndrome. She has also spoken about complications in 2022, when she suffered a blood clot on her brain and later underwent heart surgery.
Rhode plans to donate $5 million over three years to the Foundation for Women’s Health, a nonprofit research fund focused on gaps in women’s health research. The foundation’s executive director said the donation sends a message that gender inequities in health research are unacceptable. Rhode was acquired by e.l.f. Beauty for $1 billion more than a year ago.
