Two Killed in Mesa Crash Involving School Bus

Two people were killed in a collision between a passenger vehicle and a school bus in east Mesa on November 6, police said. The crash happened around 4:30 in the afternoon beside the Southern Avenue-Hawes Road junction, closing the intersection as emergency crews responded.

Both people in the car died at the scene. The bus driver was taken to a hospital for treatment; the severity of the driver’s injuries was not known. No students were on the bus when the vehicles collided.

Police officers remained at the scene to investigate what led to the crash. Blocking Southern Avenue where it meets Hawes Road prompted authorities to urge drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
