Brewers Aim to Sweep Rays and Claim First World Series Title
The Milwaukee Brewers are one win from their first World Series championship as they face the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 4 on October 27 at Tropicana Field. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series 3-0 after a 10-1 win on Monday, and Dustin May is scheduled to start. The Rays will turn to Griffin Jax as they try to keep their season alive.
May has appeared in four games during Milwaukee’s postseason run, including a start in the National League Division Series, when he allowed two runs over three innings. He also pitched a scoreless inning in relief in Game 2 of the World Series. The Brewers are expected to have several relievers available after Robert Gasser, Antonio Senzatela and Brandon Woodruff handled Monday’s game.
Milwaukee fans have traveled to Florida in large numbers for the chance to see the team win its first title. Fans gathered outside the stadium hours before the game, while Brewers players and manager Pat Murphy praised the support. The team’s only earlier World Series appearance was in 1982, when Milwaukee lost to St. Louis.
A comeback from a 3-0 deficit would be rare: only one of 43 major league teams to face that position in a best-of-seven postseason series has rallied to win. In the World Series, 21 of 25 teams with a 3-0 lead have completed the sweep in Game 4; the other four won in Game 5.
