Misiorowski Gets the Ball as Brewers Seek World Series Title
The Milwaukee Brewers have another chance to secure their first World Series title, with Jacob Misiorowski set to start Game 5 against the Tampa Bay Rays on October 28. Milwaukee leads the series 3-1 after Tampa Bay won the 12-inning Game 4, 4-3, on a walk-off single by Ben Williamson that erased the Brewers’ late lead.
Manager Pat Murphy said he did not consider using Misiorowski in relief. The right-hander was being kept available to start Game 5, and Murphy said the risk of using him in a tight road situation outweighed the possibility of ending the series a day early.
Milwaukee instead turned to its bullpen in Game 4. Aaron Ashby worked into the 11th inning before Shane Drohan entered; Tampa Bay then scored twice to win. The Rays also used several relievers, including Nick Martinez, who had been scheduled to start Game 5.
Misiorowski, a leading contender for the National League Cy Young Award, has made three postseason starts. He allowed one earned run in five innings in Game 1 of the World Series, and has a 2.70 ERA with 14 strikeouts across 13⅓ playoff innings.
If Milwaukee loses again, Game 6 will be played at home, with Logan Henderson available to start, the Brewers’ account said. For now, the club is handing the ball to Misiorowski with a chance to finish the series.
