Troy Pool to Close for 2027 as City Weighs Costly Repairs
The Troy Family Aquatic Center will shut for the 2027 summer season while the city undertakes extensive repairs. Officials say the work could allow the outdoor facility to reopen in 2028, but its longer-term future remains undecided.
Water loss last summer led city staff and leak-detection specialists to find multiple problems in aging underground systems, rather than one isolated leak. Temporary fixes kept the pool operating through the end of the season. The city says repairs must be completed during summer, prompting the closure.
Reopening is expected to require at least $1 million. A broader modernization intended to extend the facility’s life is estimated at about $15 million. City officials say that amount would compete with other uses of the capital fund, including road work, fire trucks and upgrades to city facilities. The city has spent more than $1.6 million on aquatic-center improvements since 2020, including more than $487,000 in fiscal 2026 to resurface the pool.
Residents described the outdoor pool as a longstanding family destination, citing its water slides, programs and affordability. One resident said she had visited since childhood and later brought her own family. City officials say they are considering possible community partnerships and other options. The Troy Community Center’s indoor recreation pool will remain open during the work, though residents said it does not fully replace the outdoor facility.
At the next City Council meeting, officials plan to address the aquatic center and say they will provide updates as decisions are made.
